developing a small group apprentice

Developing small group leaders involves both formal (classroom) and informal (on the job) training.

We offer formal training at Harvest in important settings like Small Group 101/201 and E3.

In addition, small group leaders are encouraged to develop an apprentice through these 4 steps:

Step One: “Watch me”
Step Two: “Let’s do it together”
Step Three: “You do it. I watch”
Step Four: “Go & make disciples”

Get your apprentice involved in the planning of small group activities, leading of the different aspects of the group such as opening time, leading the Bible Study, mutual ministry (personal growth points), prayer, and coordinating ministry opportunities … in other words, give them responsibility. Give an apprentice an opportunity to lead their own break out group during the mutual ministry time with the express purpose of multiplying that break out group into another small group.

If you are a small group leader, have you identified your apprentice? If so, where are you at in your training process?
