stepping out in faith...even if it's uncomfortable

I had the privledge of preaching God's Word at Harvest-Jupiter, FL this past weekend. It's cool to see firsthand how God is at work through our Fellowship churches. I have a deep respect for Jeremy Hill (senior pastor) and Brian Nelson (director of youth & worship) and the work they are doing for the Lord in south Florida. Here's a brief summary of my message.

The life motto of many people is: “I just want to be comfortable. I want a comfortable job that provides a comfortable living to buy a comfortable house and a comfortable car so I can have a comfortable life and a comfortable retirement. I just want to be comfortable.” But life is not about our comfort. Thank goodness Jesus didn’t come to live a comfortable life. He came to do the will of His Father – He did not come to be served, but to serve. He left the comforts of heaven to be born in a feeding trough, he served for the poor & oppressed, he cared for the hurting, he loved the lonely, he poured his life into others, he sacrificed for others … and ultimately sacrificed his very life. Thank goodness life was about his comfort when he was in the Garden sweating drops of blood, but instead he submitted to the will of His faith. Thank goodness life wasn’t about comfort when his body hung from a cross.

As followers of Christ, life is not about our comfort … but it’s about doing the will of our Father.

Make a note of this: When I settle for being comfortable, I miss out on what God wants to do in & through my life. If you want God to powerfully work in & through your life, you need to be willing to step out of your comfort zone.

We then preceded to look at Numbers 13 & 14 at two Old Testament characters who, because of their faith, were willing to step out of their comfort zones.

May each of us be willing to step out in faith ... even if it's uncomfortable.
